Vacancy – Barista

We are seeking an innovative, self-driven individual to become our new Barista and develop the pop-up cafe at Union St.

Each day we serve fresh Twin Cafe coffee, roasted locally in Sheffield and imported from an independent farmers co-operative in Sheffield’s twin city Esteli in Nicaragua. Twin Cafe invest their profits in youth social projects in Nicaragua and Sheffield, working locally with our tenants the homeless charity Roundabout.

In keeping with the culture of Union St, which hosts many freelancers and independent workers, this will be a self employed position to give the successful individual the freedom to develop the role with the reward of un-capped earnings.

During times when customers aren’t waiting to be served, the ideal candidate would be motivated to continually develop pop-up cafe in order to grow the business, including areas such as;

  • social media, ie promoting the cafe via Union St’s Twitter, Instagram & Facebook pages
  • menu, ie arranging supplies of cakes or smoothies pastries to be sold in the cafe
  • events, ie liaising with organisations looking to host meetings in the cafe
  • exhibitions, ie inviting popular local graphic artists to exhibit their work
  • interior design, ie managing a small budget to continually add to the décor
  • promotions, ie listing weekly offers via social media and A-boards

The pop-up cafe currently opens from 8am until 2pm Monday to Friday, and some Saturdays, although weekend working is not mandatory. For this position we’d like to either work with one person who wants to work full time, or two people who’d like to work part time, so when you make your application please specify how many days you’d prefer.

We’re also open to new ideas and suggestions, for opening later in the day and weekends, although this isn’t a requirement of the role.

Closing date: Wednesday 8th February, all applications responded to within 24hrs. To apply, please download the Job Description here
