Simon Redding

Simon Redding is a social entrepreneur with a passion for community and innovation. He is one of the founders of Monkey Park – a community cafe, bakery, workspace & cycle workshop in Chesterfield, operated as a not-for-profit social enterprise. He is the co-founder of Loundsley Green Community Trust, a development community trust; and also works for DEFRA, doing work on innovation and open data.

Union St is a place well suited to his community-focused working and entrepreneurial drive, and he sees it as an opportunity to be part of a community that’s trying to create real change.

The variety and the great people I get to work with is what I most enjoy about my work. Working in Union St connects me into a Sheffield social enterprise scene that I would normally be 10 miles from, and helps me to meet lots of cool people who inspire me.

Dennis Tester

Dennis Tester is the founder of Park and Donate, a car park company with an ethical focus, which manages land and parking for a variety of clients in the Sheffield area. The company helps drivers find permit parking space and works with land owners to manage their car parks sustainably. They are dedicated to donating at least 5% of all profits to local charities or not-for-profit groups.

Dennis currently manages three of CADs car parks, and also volunteers at Portland Works, a community owned home for traditional crafts.

As a co-working environment, Union St appeals to him not only as a great place to work, but also meet with many interesting people in a variety of fields.

If you have a parking problem, who are you gonna call?!

Jo Brierley

What’s your business name?
Jo Brierley, Aromatherapy, Massage, Healing and Workshops, and Cosmic Surfboard Productions Ltd/Good Morning Rave.

What do you do?
I massage people with personalised essential oil blends and help the individual feel safe and relaxed so the body can repair itself. I also run Good Morning Rave events; conscious clubbing is how I think about it. Dancing is one of the easiest ways to fill the body with happy natural chemicals.

How did it start?
My sister gave me a bottle of geranium essential oil back and I fell in love and my massage business began in Glasgow in the early 90’s. Good Morning Rave began in 2013, in a Devon field; I was camping alone and the idea came to me.

What are you working on at the moment?
Revamping my Aroma website and building a simple website for GMRave; literature for the couples massage and a Zine called ‘Boys guide to Sex and Foreplay’!

What are you looking to get out of Union St?
Focus, friendly folk to chat to, over tea breaks and a sense of belonging.

Riccardo Fumagalli

What’s your business name?
Travel Like a Local

What do you do?
I help people planning their holidays, providing all the necessary information and going beyond the standard Lonely Planet tips, thanks to my local connections. I’m working on an extensive network of independent local enterprises to rely on, to help the visitor know the most exciting realities and to avoid large associations and retail chains.
Aimed to those who don’t have time to plan and don’t have local connections but want to live a unique experience.

How did it start?
It started out of passion for the smaller independent ventures and out of frustration for a lack of accessibility to them if you are a foreign visitor.

What are you working on at the moment?
Currently I’m working on the content and layout of the mini-site promoting this service, while working on a network of reliable partners and doing too many other things.

What are you looking to get out of Union St?
I’m here to escape the distractions and the isolation of my home studio, to find inspiration and interact with other people.
