In September we launched ‘Five Days of Food’, creating the city’s first pop-up cafe featuring five independent street food traders, each ‘popping up’ to serve hot lunches one day per week.

We offer a city centre venue, directly opposite both the Post Office and Sheffield City Council’s Customer Service Centre, with daily footfall plus resident co-workers and regular events.

Sophie Lane of Slaaw has been our resident every Tuesday, and next month she leaves Sheffield to embark on a year’s backpacking trip. As a result, we’re currently recruiting for a new individual or team to join Chef Chris Hale (Mondays), The Sunshine Cafe (Tuesdays during Feb), Pasta Masta (Wednesdays), Pie Eyed (Thursdays) and FANFARE (Fridays from 24th Feb). We’d also be open to applications to pop-up on evenings and weekends.

For the best results, we find pop-up cafes who’re proactive with spreading the word are the most successful, with a great example of this being FANFARE who launched on Friday and completely sold out. If you’ve got a great idea for a menu but haven’t yet developed the concept, we also have freelance graphic designers at Union St who can help develop your brand, to give you the tools to go out and develop a following.

To contribute to our building costs we ask for 15% of your daily revenue, but the rest of the cash you receive in lunch sales is yours to take home. Plus, the first month is provided at no cost to help you invest in promotion. During these first 4 weeks we’ll also provide support with interviewing you to create a feature article in our newsletter, and work with our resident filmakers to create a 1 minute video that describes what food you’ll be serving.

To get a feel for what happens here, a recent interview by Creative Sheffield about Union St is here, and on our Facebook page here you’ll find videos featuring the resident pop-up cafes plus a selection of co-workers.
