Rachel Stockton

Rachel Stockton is a consultant for the charity sector. She is currently providing project management support to a London-based charity for the implementation of their Lean programme, as well as looking to help Sheffield charities and voluntary groups with their business strategy. Her experience is diverse, encompassing financial management, governance, and Resources Director roles. This breadth of experience enables her to engage with charities in a number of ways including creating business plans, strategies for people management, and promotion via social media.

Union St provides Rachel with a space from which to work, but also a place from which to rediscover Sheffield. Having commuted to Leeds for the last few years, and now balancing a role in London, she finds Union St an excellent hub to plug into all the many activities taking off around the city. Rachel is passionate about the voluntary sector, is a trustee for local charity Sheffcare and volunteers for the Real Junk Food Project. She has also provided free business planning workshops to the small voluntary start-up organisation Men At Work.

I love working with people, particularly to help improve or introduce new systems and ideas.

Sue Cook

With over 15 years’ experience as a consultant in the voluntary and public sectors, Sue Cook is an expert on charitable funding.

She is Comic Relief’s grants advisor for Yorkshire and the Humber, and works for a number of funders across the UK. She helps organisations both devise funding strategies and review their current approach. Her key skills include quick and astute analysis, and connecting people and projects. This collaborative spirit has brought her to Union St, which not only serves as an efficient city-centre base, but also offers constant new opportunities for meeting a wide range of people and of igniting new ideas.

What I most enjoy about my work is the constant variety, I learn something from every new project. And knowing that I may change things for the better – it feels socially valuable.

Eva Barabas MSc(Eng) MBCS

What do you do?
Software Engineer, preferring Ruby @NHSChoices (nhs.uk), tech community outreach volunteer, Co-organiser at Sheffield Ruby User Group (shrug.org), Webmaster and Young Professional Representative at BCS South Yorkshire Branch (sy.bcs.org) and occasional trainer/speaker.

How did it start?
Being part of amazing companies which had the community outreach at their centre, I became inspired to give back as well and volunteer.

What are you working on at the moment?
At work, we are building Public Health England’s campaigns (Be Clear on Cancer, Smokefree, Start4Life), while in my spare time I am looking into funding and expanding some of the groups I am involved with.

What are you looking to get out of Union St?
Inspiration on the days when I work flexibly from Union St, plus opportunity to collaborate with other members in order to better reach the local tech community outside of working hours.
